Bird Watching Tour in Muroran City, Hokkaido, JAPAN

After raising their young, hawks head south in the fall to spend the winter in warmer climates. Muroran City in Hokkaido is famous as a stopover point for migratory birds from across Hokkaido. They soar high into the sky, riding the powerful updrafts from the sheer cliffs formed by ancient volcanic eruptions and the cooling of magma. The hawks spiral upwards and glide towards their next stopover point, Mt.Komagatake in Mori-cho, about 30km across the sea. The sight of these hawks in flight is a powerful reminder of the resilience and beauty of nature. On the day of the tour, we will hike from Mt. Survey to Masuichi Observatory, observing the hawks’ migration while listening to commentary from a certified Hokkaido Outdoor Guide.
